چکیده

Abstract In the present paper, a new process, whose acronym is UTN (University of Trento) system, proposed and tested at full scale for reducing amount sludge wastewater treatment plant. The system allows reduction in conventional activated (CAS) due to cell lysis, decay and, above all, selection slow growing microorganism. this study, first full-scale was by retrofitting an existing plant located Marmirolo (Lombardia, Italy) having capacity 6,000 population equivalent (PE). Performances were evaluated terms reduction, together with organic carbon nutrients removal efficiencies. Results obtained over 10 month monitoring period, divided period I (7 months) II (3 months), characterized different operative conditions, have reported specific production 0.37 0.23 kg TSS per kg COD removed, respectively; which 50% 69% lower than that observed reference when worked under process. Furthermore, results revealed high typical pollutants, without causing negative effects on effluent quality, always ensuring compliance regulatory discharge limits.

Aerobic Sludge Granulation in a Full-Scale Sequencing Batch Reactor

Aerobic granulation of activated sludge was successfully achieved in a full-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with 50,000 m(3) d(-1) for treating a town's wastewater. After operation for 337 days, in this full-scale SBR, aerobic granules with an average SVI30 of 47.1 mL g(-1), diameter of 0.5 mm, and settling velocity of 42 m h(-1) were obtained. Compared to an anaerobic/oxic plug flow (A/O)...

Minimization of sludge production by a side-stream reactor under anoxic conditions in a pilot plant.

This study evaluates the application of an anoxic side-stream reactor in the sludge return line of a conventional activated sludge system for the reduction of biomass production. The oxidation-reduction potential was maintained at -150 mV while the applied sludge loading rate was modified by changing the percentage of return sludge treated in this reactor. The observed yield from the convention...

Enhanced lipid degradation in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor by integration with an acidogenic reactor.

Lipids inhibition and their degradation in dairy wastewater treatment were investigated in this study. A two-phase system, composed of an acidogenic continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and a methanogenic upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor, was compared with the single-phase system of a conventional UASB reactor. The systems were operated up to an organic loading rate of 8.09 g ...

Production Of Hydrogen By Wastewater Sludge Using Anaerobic Fermentation In A Pilot Scale Reactor

The aim of this study is to investigate the production of bio-hydrogen, via dark anaerobic fermentation in a pilot scale reactor under batch conditions, using a mixed microflora. As inoculum, anaerobic digested sludge, collected from municipal wastewater treatment plant, was used after being pre-treated with HCl 1N for 24h (pH 3) in order to inhibit the methanogenic bioactivity. As a source of ...

Degradation of methanethiol by methylotrophic methanogenic archaea in a lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor.

In a lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor inoculated with granular sludge from a full-scale wastewater treatment plant treating paper mill wastewater, methanethiol (MT) was degraded at 30 degrees C to H2S, CO2, and CH4. At a hydraulic retention time of 9 h, a maximum influent concentration of 6 mM MT was applied, corresponding to a volumetric loading rate of 16.5 mmol liter-1 day-1...
